Current and former players weigh in on Manning mania

Posted: Updated:

Let the Manning Mayhem begin! Reports are circling that Peyton Manning is set to visit Arizona this weekend and scope out what could be his next move. We spoke to his potential future teammates to see what they think.

While fans are brutally honest about their desire or disdain to have Manning play in Phoenix, current and former players here at Kurt Warner's annual Ultimate Football Experience are a little more reserved and say to let the chips fall where they may.

"Best quarterback in the league," said fan John Violette.

"He's an icon," said Bob Zarbo.

And now fellow football icons are weighing in on the possibility of adding the former Indianapolis Colt to the Cardinals roster.

"The Miami Dolphins are probably the front runners in this thing, but it's going to be close between those two teams," said former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner.

"This is a great organization to play for and if he decides to come out and visit, I think he'll enjoy it," said current Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

"His mindset: 'I've got a couple of years to play left, I've got to get into a division that can get me in the tournament, right, I can win this division and I can win it now,'" said NFL analyst and former player Steve Young.

Manning flew to Denver Friday, and there are other contenders in the game, too. But after rumors circled that Fitzgerald and Manning shared a meal a couple of weeks ago, sports insiders are looking for any juicy tidbit to tell which way Manning is leaning. But for Fitzgerald, mum's the word.

"I'm paid to catch the football and get first downs and try to score some touchdowns, and if you're going to throw it, I'm going to try to catch it and do the best I can with it," Fitzgerald said.

Fans and analysts say the Cardinals need stability, and despite his injuries, many are confident Manning can give them that.

"Peyton Manning is a calculated dude, so do not mess with him," Young said. "He is ready to play."
