It's a happy ending for our feline friend after a frightening week spent in a storm drain.

"My uncle and my brother came to the bank and they saw the cat there but they just left ," said Jackelin Malbonabo.

Malbonabo noticed the kitten making a racket from the drain a week ago.

When she saw him again Thursday, she knew he needed help.

"This morning we came to Starbucks and we saw people looking in the sewer and he's like, 'I wonder if it's the cat still,'" she said.

She called the Arizona Humane Society.

They went old school and called in the Avondale Fire Department to save the day.

"Somebody has to help him. Why not the fire department, right," said firefighter Kyle Winterstein.

It took awhile to rescue the little guy.

Firefighters had to yank off two storm drains and eventually use a hose to get him out.

"Basically I crawled down there, waited for the cat. It came close but we had to wait for awhile so it was kind of a little cat and mouse game if you will," Winterstein said.

He wasn't a happy camper.

But once he was dried off he perked up.

The cute kitty won't be spending another night in the storm drain.
