APS: Suspect bag at Palo Verde had litter-like substance

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

CBS 5 News has learned that a suspicious bag found on the grounds of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station on Wednesday night was not dangerous.

The bag contained an absorbent material similar to kitty litter, said Jim MacDonald of Arizona Public Service.

MacDonald said the discarded bag was a few hundred yards away from the protected nuclear facility.

The scene was cleared around 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

Palo Verde is the largest nuclear power plant in the nation.
