MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
Arizona State University is now better equipped to handle an emergency situation.
Today the alternate emergency operations center officially opened at ASU.
The center is located at the site of the Del E Webb foundation High Altitude Chamber in Mesa.
"Not only do we want our families, we want our businesses but we want agencies at all levels of government to be able to perpetuate their functions after a disaster. It's hard to coordinate a disaster if you can't communicate. It's hard to restore communities if you can't restore functions," shared Louis Trammell with ADEM.
If there is a catastrophe in Arizona, the state Division of Emergency Management will relocate its operations to the new facility.
