PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -
No doubt most students want to get straight As. But how about their school?
Frontier Elementary in Peoria is literally that close to getting an A rating from the state, and a motivational campaign started by parents, called "Just 3 More," is hoping to get them there.
"An A for the school is good for the community, for our parents, and for our future. Our city, and our state depends on us to keep doing our best," said Cory Underhill, a Frontier parent spearheading the campaign.
The state recently changed the way schools are rated. They now use the equivalent of a letter grade system. But with the change, Frontier wound up just three points away from the top spot.
"The B, which is just three points away from an A, is just not reflective of the hard work our teachers do, plus how much our students know. We believe we should be an A school and we're doing everything we can to be an A school," said principal Rae Conelley.
Every student, teacher, and administrator is being asked to do just three more of anything - whether it's reading three more pages or chapters, working three more math problems, or tutoring three more students. The hope is that this will motivate students to be completely prepared for the AIMS test in April, which will ultimately dictate the school's grade.
The school will know this fall, after those test scores are released, if it got its "A".
