Andrew Islas
TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -
An assistant band teacher at Tempe High School was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual misconduct involving a 16-year-old student, police said.
Andrew Islas, 23, of Chandler, is accused of engaging in sexual activity multiple times with the teen over a period of months, allegedly beginning in August of 2011, and continuing through November 2011, at various locations, including Islas' home, said Lt. Mike Horn of the Tempe Police Department.
Officers are trying to determine if any of the incidents occurred on campus, Horn said. In an interview with detectives, Islas admitted to the inappropriate relationship, Horn said.
Islas was booked on six counts of sexual conduct with a minor, all perpetrated against the same victim, police said.
The investigation is ongoing with the possibility of additional charges.
Only one victim has been identified at this time, but anyone who may have additional information can call Tempe Police Dispatch Non-Emergency Line at 480-350-8311.
