TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -
Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Tucson Field Office seized nearly $168,000 in unreported U.S. currency Tuesday from a man headed for Mexico through the Dennis DeConcini Port.
Officers were conducting outbound inspections when they selected a 54-year-old Mexican man for additional questioning and a closer look at his truck. When officers removed the bed liner, they found 11 packages containing $167,572, CBP officers said.
The unreported funds and vehicle were processed for seizure. The man was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
This is the second significant currency seizure in just over a week. On Feb. 13, officers seized almost $169,000 that had been concealed inside the suspect vehicle's audio speakers.
