PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed a five-member citizens panel to recommend a replacement for state Rep. Richard Miranda.

Miranda, a Democrat from Tolleson, resigned from the House of Representatives in District 13 on Feb. 16 because of health reasons.

The Board of Supervisors chose Tolleson Mayor Adolfo Gamez, State Sen. Steve Gallardo, Maryvale businessman Jimmy Candelaria, Phoenix Union High School District Board member Linda Abril and Janice Blackmon, chairwoman of District 13 Democrats, for the assignment.

The board said the panel will meet and submit three names for consideration to fill the vacancy.

Persons interested in applying for the seat should send their letters of interest and resumes to Luis Heredia, executive director of the state Democratic Party. He can be reached by FAX at 602-298-7117 or by e-mail.
