LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ (CBS5) -

Rural Metro firefighters using heavy earth-moving equipment hope to extinguish a mulch fire that has been burning in Litchfield Park since Tuesday Friday night.

The fire is on the corner of Camelback and Sarival roads.

Maricopa County Departments of Emergency Management, Air Quality and Public Health are working with Goodyear and Litchfield Park city officials to determine an estimated time that the smoke will be cleared.

Air quality monitoring equipment near the fire shows particulate matter pollution readings in the low, or good, range. Units will continue to monitor the air quality.

Residents have also seen the smoke become much thicker at night because of cooler overnight temperatures, which keeps the smoke closer to the ground, according to city officials.

For general health questions related to the mulch fire, people can contact the Maricopa County Public Health Information Line at 602-747-7500.
