TUCSON, AZ (AP) -
Pima County supervisors approved spending $6 million for the county to buy land south of Raytheon Missile Systems for a safety buffer zone for its manufacturing operations.
The Arizona Daily Star reports the land will also be developed as a research park.
Putting a road through the proposed buffer area could be part of a future bond issue to be decided by voters.
County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry says Pima County taxpayers are getting a good deal because of the depressed real estate market. He predicts the property will sell for a minimum of $6 million in the future.
