PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Angelique Robledo on Tuesday got the chance to give a piece of her mind to Kassandra Toruga, the woman police say plotted to kill Robledo and cut out her unborn baby a year ago.
Although her almost 1-year-old son, Ryland, is safe and doing well, Robledo said she constantly questions herself, wondering why she didn't see the warning signs that Toruga was mentally ill.
She also said her sense of security and trust were stolen from her.
"Not only did you try to kill me and take my son, you plotted this out and came to my house with the intention to walk away with my baby," Robledo said during Toruga's sentencing Tuesday.
Robledo told CBS 5 News that on that night in February, Toruga, her supposed friend, showed up at her house with two butcher knives and a pair of scissors hidden in a diaper bag.
"I felt like she was going to stab me, like that's what my gut was telling me," Robledo said.
Police said her gut was right on.
Court documents showed Toruga set Robledo's closet on fire, and that she'd planned to kill Robledo and steal her unborn child.
Toruga was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and arson.
Her attorney read a brief statement, saying her client apologizes and asks forgiveness.
Toruga was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison.
