COTTONWOOD, AZ (CBS5) -
A suspect in a domestic violence case was arrested Friday after physically assaulting his wife and threatening her with a handgun, the Yavapai County SHeriff's Office said.
Travis Anderson, 36, is being held at the Camp Verde Detention Center on $20,000 bond.
On Friday, the man's wife called YCSO deputies to their home in Cottonwood. She told them her husband had attacked her while they were in Phoenix during an argument over marital issues, YCSO said.
She attempted to leave, but she said her husband had disabled their car and smashed her cell phone, deputies said. When she eventually got home, her husband disappeared for two days with their 4-year-old son, she said. Deputies said they saw she had a gash on her forehead along with redness and scratch marks visible on her neck.
On Tuesday, Anderson arrived home and during an argument, threw what she believed was a bag of bullets at her, striking her forehead, YCSO said. He threw her in a shower stall and placed her in a choke hold, deputies said. Anderson then went to the bedroom and returned holding a handgun, according to deputies.
One of the woman's family member's arrived and the victim was able to leave with her son who had witnessed much of Anderson's alleged assault. The family member saw Anderson break out a bedroom window with his fist, YCSO said.
While interviewing the victim, deputies said they located Anderson driving away from his Cornville neighborhood and he was detained. Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered a handgun and shotgun in the trunk, along with meth scales and "snort tubes" containing meth residue inside the vehicle passenger compartment, YCSO said. Deputies said they also located drug paraphernalia inside the home.
A drug recognition expert from the Department of Public Safety helped by conducting tests on Anderson and determined he was under the influence of stimulants and narcotic pain relievers, YCSO said.
Anderson was booked on charges of aggravated assault, threatening per domestic violence, criminal damage, possession of dangerous drug, possession of a deadly weapon in commission of a felony and DUI.
