A management plan aimed at attacking mussels and other invasive plants and animals has been approved by a task force making it eligible for federal funding to assist with future implementation efforts.

The Mohave Daily News reports Arizona's plan describes detection and monitoring efforts of recognized invasive species such as quagga mussels.

The goal is to stop their introduction and spread, and control efforts to reduce the overall impact to Arizona's environment and economy and any harm to human health.

Quagga mussels have proven exceptionally difficult to eradicate.
