AZ Senate to consider 2 bills on public unions

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -

The Arizona Senate on Thursday is scheduled to consider two of four pending Republican-sponsored bills on public employee unions.

One of the bills scheduled for debate Thursday would prohibit a government employer from paying an employee for union activities. The other would prohibit deductions from government employees' paychecks for unions and other outside groups without annual authorizations.

Two other bills also awaiting Senate action are not scheduled for debate. One would ban collective bargaining with public employee unions. The other would bar withholding money from a public employee's pay for union dues.

Senate leaders said those bills remain alive despite not being scheduled for debate Thursday, and the sponsor of those two bills says he's still working to enlist support for them.
