PHOENIX (AP) -

A Coolidge man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for assaulting a woman on the Gila River Indian Reservation.

Federal prosecutors announced Tuesday that 21-year-old Spencer Ray Mix also will have to serve three years of supervised release after serving his 57-month prison term.

He was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix after pleading guilty in September.

Authorities say the assault occurred last May 28 when Mix became angry and intentionally beat, kicked and stomped on the victim repeatedly while she lay on the ground.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Gila River Police Department.
