Yuma bicyclist dies of injuries from car collision

A 67-year-old Yuma bicyclist has died of injuries suffered when he was struck by a car Sunday in a Yuma intersection.

Yuma police said John Esperanza was riding his bicycle in a crosswalk at the intersection of Eighth Street and Avenue B about 5:10 p.m. when he was struck by a 2005 Nissan sedan driven by 61-year-old Irene Pollard.

Esperanza was flown from Yuma Regional Medical Center to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, where he died of his injuries.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that witnesses are being sought.
