Dogs get second chance at life

MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A number of dogs scheduled to be put to death will get a second chance at life this Valentine's Day.

The event is called the Happy Valen'tails adoption.

Organizers are taking e-listed dogs. That means the dogs were schedule to be euthanized.  Instead, they will be put them up for adoption this weekend.

The dogs will come from all over the state and will be showcased at Kiwanis Park in Tempe.

"A lot of people think that these dogs come into the shelter system because they are sick or vicious.  They think that they are the worst of the worst and that they are rejects and they are not. These dogs once had a home. They just need somebody to give them a chance and give them new home, and a new lease on life," shared Michelle Elek-Zuberbuehler with PAWS.

The dogs are all healthy, spayed and neutered.

They are also current on their vaccines.

Adoption fees are $55 per dog.
