KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
A Kansas City policewoman was pepper-sprayed while being arrested for driving under the influence.
Missouri troopers said they were forced to use pepper spray after the woman fought them, including head butting a colleague.
Megan M. Laffoon, 29, was charged with assault of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and lane violation.
The Missouri Highway Patrol pulled Laffoon over near North Oak Trafficway and NE 106th Street about 3 a.m. Wednesday. During her arrest, court documents said Laffoon scratched one trooper and head-butted an officer.
Troopers said in court documents they saw Laffoon swerve out of her lane multiple times and drive up on a curb before driving down the center portion of the divided street. The woman reeked of alcohol and her speech was slurred, according to court documents.
Once pulled over, the report said Laffoon failed the DUI tests troopers administered and then became enraged when told she was being arrested for driving while intoxicated. She fought troopers when they tried to put handcuffs on her and was pepper-sprayed after scratching one on the neck.
Even after being put in handcuffs and being hit with the spray, the probable cause statement said Laffoon head butted a Kansas City police officer as he was trying to seatbelt her into their vehicle.
Once at the Clay County Detention Center, it took approximately seven deputies to restrain Laffoon.
Laffoon has been with the Kansas City Police Department since 2005. Per the department's policy, she will be suspended without pay pending further investigation.
She is being held on a 24-hour hold in the Clay County Detention Center. Her bond has not yet been set.
