A Maricopa man and his 26-year-old son each face nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an incident at a park, police said.

Angelo Abruzzese, 53, and his son, Anthony, were apprehended without incident at their home located in the same block as the incident.

Maricopa police officers were called to the 44500 block of West Palo Nuez Street Monday to check out a report of a man with a gun.

Witnesses said the man brandishing the weapon, Angelo Abruzzese, had left the park and returned with his two sons. Angelo Abruzzese approached some people in the park and initiated a physical confrontation between his son and one of the people who initially wanted to fight his 16-year-old son, officers said.

During the confrontation, when Angelo Abruzzese attempted to intervene on his son's behalf and other people became involved, he pulled out a handgun, pointed it and threatened to shoot them, police said.

When witnesses threatened to call the police, Angelo Abruzzese and his sons reportedly fled the scene.

Angelo Abruzzese also faces nine counts of misconduct involving a weapon.
