PHOENIX (CBS5) -

It's an all too frequent crime in the Valley. This time, the thief was caught on camera stealing metal from a Phoenix School.

The theft took place just after midnight on Jan. 19.

The guy meticulously took apart four air conditioning units at the now vacant Sierra Vista Elementary School.

The school closed in 2010 and is being used for storage and professional development classes.

"During two hours he dismantled four AC units which prelim the replacement cost is looking at $20,000 right now, but that could obviously go up," said Sgt. Theresa Clark, who supervises the metal theft division of the Phoenix Police Department.

Police told CBS 5 News this man had to jump over a fence to even reach the units.

If you think you recognize him, Silent Witness is offering up to a $1,000 reward.
