GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
A 17-year-old Glendale woman fired on a would-be robber trying to enter her home through a dog door on Monday.
Julio Lowe told CBS-5 News his daughter Laycee is eight months pregnant and was home alone when the suspect rang the doorbell at about noon.
She refused to answer the door, but the suspect didn't go away.
"She could tell that he was climbing over the fence and then she heard him checking at the windows and stuff like that," said Julio Lowe.
She could see the man's shadow through the kitchen blinds and she was ready.
"When she saw his hand coming through the dog door, she just put the gun through the dog door and pulled the trigger," said Julio Lowe.
Glendale police officers said there was no evidence the suspect was hit before he took off.
Lowe said he was working about an hour and a half away and was panicked when Laycee called him about what happened. Her demeanor, he said, was much different.
"She's just calm. No big deal," said Julio Lowe.
This is not the first time Laycee has seen the suspect. He allegedly knocked on her door only three days before. Her dad says she got a good look as he walked away after she didn't open the door.
That's when her dad stressed to keep the home security alarm on. He also showed her how to fire their .22 caliber handgun if she should ever need it.
Julio Lowe says he doesn't know why their home was targeted but is proud of his courageous young daughter and thankful she and her unborn baby boy are OK.
"She's just real brave and slick. She handled it real well," he said.
Police are looking for the suspect, who is described as a younger African American man with an average height and build. He was last seen wearing a navy hoodie and a cap with ear flaps.
