PHOENIX (CBS5) -
One horse died and six people were hurt, two of them critically, in a two truck crash in Phoenix Saturday night.
A pickup truck was on the side of the road at 35th Avenue and Broadway getting ready to load a vehicle onto its flatbed when it was struck by another truck pulling a trailer with three horses aboard, said Capt. Scott McDonald of the Phoenix Fire Department.
The horse trailer flipped and one horse died and two others survived.
"It was tricky because the horse trailer was on its side," McDonald said. Fire crews took the top off the trailer and pulled the horses out one by one.
"It's not every day that Phoenix Fire is able to extricate horses out of a trailer. The fact we were able to get two out alive is a pretty successful operation.
No names of the injured were released.
