PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Phoenix police say two men died and two were seriously injured when the vehicle they were in flipped and crashed following a short chase.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said just after 10 p.m. Saturday an officer stopped the driver of a Chevy Tahoe at 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road for a traffic violation. There were three adult male passengers in the Tahoe with the driver.
Thompson said when the officer approached the Tahoe the driver punched the gas and sped away west on Indian School Road.
A short pursuit was stopped after the officer saw the Tahoe run a red light at Indian School Road and 91st Avenue, said Thompson.
Witnesses said the Tahoe continued west on Indian School to Loop 101 where it ran into a concrete barrier, went airborne, then hit a light pole. The light pole was snapped off during the collision.
