Reports show two recent home invasions in Paradise Valley

PARADISE VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

Violent crime is not something that happens very often in Paradise Valley so the recent murder of two people has hit the community hard.

This week, CBS-5 asked police chief John Bennett if there had been any other crimes recently where the victims had been bound or tied up.

Chief Bennett said, "None ... that's correct."

However, CBS-5 covered a violent home invasion Sept. 26, 2011, where the homeowner was robbed and tied up.

According to reports, the resident was asleep in his bed when two men appeared in the bedroom.

The victim was tied up with some bedding and a pillow case was placed over his head.

The crooks took off with jewelry, cash and a 2006 Mercedes.

A month later, a Paradise Valley couple was confronted by a gunman hiding behind a bush. He forced the couple into the house. The suspect then handcuffed the couple and demanded them to open their safe.

He then took off with cash and the couple's car.

Longtime attorney and mayoral candidate Maria Syms believes there needs to be accountability.

"I always think the best policies are made in the light of day and the information is important... they can be more vigilant," Syms said.

At this time, there is no indication whether there is a connection to the murders.

Paradise Valley's mayor said the first home invasion report was not accurate and said he was not familiar with the second case.
