MARICOPA, AZ (CBS5) -
Angelique Robledo will be the first to admit her crazy story of survival that sounds like it should be a Lifetime movie.
The 19-year-old and her almost 1-year-old son, Ryland, are inseparable.
"I can't think about losing him, he's my world," Robledo said.
When you hear what nearly happened you'll understand why.
It's an emotional topic, one Robledo hasn't talked about much since last February when it all happened.
When police said her supposed friend, 18-year-old Kassandra Toruga, told her she was pregnant, too.
Robledo said one night Toruga showed up at her house with two butcher knives a pair of scissors hidden in a diaper bag.
"I felt like she was going to stab me, like that's what my gut was telling me," Robledo said.
Police said her gut was right on.
Court documents showed Toruga set Robledo's closet on fire, and that she'd planned to kill Robledo and steal her unborn child.
Robledo remembered what she found when she went through Toruga's bag.
"I pull out two butcher knives. And I just start crying and crying and crying," she said.
Toruga has since been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and arson.
"I know she's going to be sentenced and I'm so happy because she needs that help. She needs that help so bad," Robledo said.
And Robledo needs help dealing the roller coaster of the last year.
The amazing feeling of becoming a mom pitted against the gut-wrenching thought her baby was almost taken from her.
"I could never imagine. Like when he calls me mom I always think about what if he were to call her mom. He's my life," she said.
Robledo told CBS 5 News Toruga entered an insanity plea Friday.
Toruga's sentencing is in a few weeks.
