PINAL COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

Another case of animal hoarding has occurred in Arizona. This time it's a Pinal County couple who had more than 50 cats in their home.

Elias Johnson of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said Gary Cyphert was arrested Friday morning on animal cruelty after they were found in "deplorable conditions" in the home near Gold Canyon.

Authorities said Cyphert made threats to law enforcement and animal control officers when they arrived.

Animal Care and Control officers said the home and a trailer on the property were filled with feces and smelled strongly of cat urine.

His wife is also expected to be charged.

Fifty-nine cats and one dog were removed from the home and are being evaluated by the Pinal County Animal Control office. Animal Control said many of the cats are in poor condition and in the next few weeks they'll know how many of the cats will be available for adoption.

Sergeant Lonnie Buckels, a 20-year veteran of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, said this was one of the worst cases of animal hoarding he has seen in his career.

Earlier this week, Animal Control removed 93 dogs and five exotic birds from a double-wide trailer in the Hidden Valley area.
