PHOENIX (AP) -
Arizona legislators may take an in-depth look at the state's tax system.
The state House on Thursday gave preliminary approval to a bill to establish a study committee to study those ideas and submit a report by next October.
The House acted after changing the bill to delete wording that would have specified that the study would look at broadening the sales tax while phasing out the individual and corporate income taxes.
Democrats welcomed the changes proposed by the bill's sponsor, Mesa Republican Steve Court to broaden what the committee will consider.
Formal House passage of the bill would send it to the Senate for consideration.
