Dog owner uses duct tape to control pets

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix Police are investigating another possible case of animal cruelty.

Four dogs were brought to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control Center with duct tape around their mouths and paws.

"I wouldn't want to be duct taped," said Animal Control Officer April Hollis. "The owners thought the dogs were being aggressive and didn't realize they were doing something wrong. Duct tape is not the answer."

County officials said the animals arrived in cages last Friday.

Animal control officers called Phoenix police to investigate, but so far no charges have been filed.

All of the dogs are pit bull mixes.

The dogs have spent the past few days receiving care and medical treatment, and all of them should be OK, Hollis said.

One of the dogs just gave birth to four puppies.

Three of the dogs have been given to rescue groups for adoption, while the fourth will remain with her litter until the pups are old enough to be adopted.

Hollis said this should be a lesson to all dog owners that duct tape is not an acceptable way to restrain your pet.

"There are laws in this state to protect animals from abuse, cruelty and neglect," Hollis said. "You need to be aware of how to treat your animals properly."
