PHOENIX (AP) -
The attorney representing missing 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley's mother Jerice Hunter is questioning why police are choosing now to begin searching a huge landfill south of Phoenix for the missing Glendale girl.
Attorney Scott Maasen said if police had information the child is out there, why would they wait weeks and weeks to begin searching.
Glendale police announced Thursday they would begin combing through piles of garbage on Feb. 6 at the Butterfield Landfill in Mobile.
The search could last several weeks and could cover an area measuring approximately 180 by 200 feet, and over 20 feet deep. It is the equivalent of one day's waste, which amounts to 6,000 tons of trash.
