2 arrested in meth bust in Yavapai County

PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -

A routine traffic stop in northern Arizona led to the discovery of a pound of methamphetamine and the arrest of a New Mexico man and a 17-year-old.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn tells The Arizona Republic the arrests occurred earlier this month and were just now made public in order not to jeopardize the investigation.

The driver consented to a search of a sedan and that led to a plastic grocery bag with a container of crystallized meth behind the back seat.

Authorities say the meth is worth more than $15,000 wholesale but the street value could have been at least three times higher.

Twenty-one-year-old Martin Carreon-Salas was arrested on suspicion of transporting dangerous drugs for sale and involving a minor in a drug offense. The teenager was booked into a juvenile detention center.
