LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (AP) -
Get caught feeding a coyote in Lake Havasu and you risk paying a $1,000 fine. The City Council this week voted 5-2 to hike the penalty for feeding coyotes.
Two council members voted against the increase saying it's excessive.
But other council members remained adamant that increasing the penalty would send a message that feeding coyotes -- whether on purpose or accidentally -- is a serious violation.
City Manager Charlie Cassens tells the Today's News-Herald there's no warm and fuzzy way to address the coyote issue. Cassens says the most recommended way is to get folks to chase them off because coyotes have become very comfortable around the city.
