Scam Alert: Not so 'free' prescriptions

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Better Business Bureau is warning people to watch out for companies that offer to secure free or discounted prescription prices. According to the BBB, many of these companies charge fees for their services and many of the services are free from the pharmaceutical industry.

One company in particular received an "F" rating from the BBB. The Bureau of Prescription Health, which runs the website www.freemedicine.com, offers to connect patients with free or discounted prescription programs, but charges $10 for each prescription.

BBB officials said many customers reported that they received nothing for their fees.

Many pharmaceutical companies have their own programs meant to help people with limited funds through discounted or free prescriptions. These programs have no application fees.
