Scam claims lower credit card interest rates

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Visa and Mastercard are celebrating because many of us used our credit cards over the holiday season.

But if you're looking for a way to save money with a lower credit card interest rate, beware.

Attorney generals from around the country are complaining about a new scam that targets credit card users.

The bait these con artists use is a promise to lower your existing credit card interest rates.

Most of the victims are reporting they got a call from a business called "card services" or "account services."

Many of these companies are operating from outside of the country.

They promise to take up to 10 percent off your interest rate.

But they charge as much as $800, and there's really nothing they can do that you can't do yourself - for free.

This scam has been around for awhile, but there is a new wave of complaints that started right before the holidays and is sure to increase as we all start getting our holiday credit card bills.
