PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A major milestone for Tempe based US Airways and Airbus was celebrated today.

The 7,000th Airbus aircraft was delivered to US Airways, and it was celebrated at Sky Harbor International Airport.

Passengers were treated to a party at the gate, before the airline's newest Airbus A321 took off to Charlotte, NC.

US Airways' Chief Operating Officer Robert Isom says, "It's very exciting for us. It seats 183 passengers and this aircraft will have WiFi, so access for customers at any point after you reach altitude and it has the finest in first class seating and also a very nice and expansive, roomy coach section."

US Airways operates the world's largest fleet of Airbus aircraft with more than 220 in the skies.
