PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Well we don't get a white Christmas in Arizona very often, but how about a green Christmas?
That's right, one valley man is using the sun to make the holidays just a little bit brighter for everyone.
You'll find the display at 2554 East Sweetwater Avenue in Phoenix complete with hundreds of lights synchronized to a Christmas movie montage. Just tune into the radio while parked outside and enjoy.
"It was like the best house I have seen so far," said Bryn Heidbreder.
But you would think the electric meter would be spinning out of control right? Well not this year. Fred Hampton has been putting on this display for a decade, and this time, he's getting a little extra help and it's not from Santa's elves.
"I no longer have to pay anything because I'm going solar," said Hampton.
Twelve solar panels sitting in the front yard generate enough energy to keep the lights glowing from sundown to midnight, everyday, all for free.
Hampton said, "Anytime you can afford to do anything that saves you money and makes the environment a better place, you should be doing it."
While one visitor said she just likes, "The colorful lights and feeling of Christmas and joy everywhere," said Jade Heidbreder.
The display will be lit from sundown until midnight every day through New Year's Eve.
