Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday it'll soon be offering flights out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
A spokesperson from Florida-based Spirit said the airlines will have service from Mesa to more than 30 different cities throughout the U.S. Caribbean and Latin America during the first quarter of 2012.
Two daily non-stop flights between Phoenix-Mesa and Las Vegas begin on Feb. 9, and daily non-stop service between Phoenix-Mesa and Dallas/Fort Worth with continuing service to Fort Lauderdale begin on March 22.
Spirit joins Las Vegas-based Allegiant who became Gateway's sole carrier in 2008 after Vision Airlines stopped its service to Las Vegas.
Gateway is a former Air Force base in southeast Mesa that closed in 1993. It took almost 13 years to land its first civilian carrier.
