Authorities say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed near 19th Avenue and Union Hills Road.
Phoenix police says 46-year-old Charlie Thompson had been crossing the street when he was struck by a 2007 two-door Chevrolet.
Witnesses advised officers that Thompson had been running across the roadway because he had heard that his dog had been struck by a vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and was not in the crosswalk. The 21-year-old driver of the car was evaluated, and no indications of impairment were found.
