PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 26-year-old man died from a gunshot wound suffered while riding his bicycle to work, according to Phoenix police.

Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department said two officers watched as the man they identified as Michael Harty fell off his bicycle near 2400 S. 107th Ave. just before 9 p.m. Monday. They realized he had been shot when they went to investigate.

Martos said the victim told the officers that as he was riding his bicycle, he was approached by a Hispanic male in his 20s and shot. The officers said they believe robbery was the motive.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141. To remain anonymous, people can call Silent Witness at 480.WITNESS or 480.TESTIGO.
