Pay It Forward: Surprise woman helps strays look good for adoption

Posted: Updated:
SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

At the moment, Tiny Phillips has 15 dogs residing at her Sun City West home.

But Phillips doesn't want you to get the wrong idea.

"I'm definitely not an animal hoarder. I don't like animal hoarders," she said.

Phillips runs Arizona Toy Breed rescue.

Anytime the Maricopa County Sheriffs Posse volunteers in Sun City West pick up a stray, Phillips takes them in and tries to locate new, loving owners.

But there's just one problem - presentation.

"Most people don't want to take a dirty, nasty dog home for their dog they want the cute, pretty dog," said Phillips.

That is where Shauna Rosenbaum comes in - she owns Shauna's Paw Spa & Pet Boutique in Surprise.

Rosenbaum takes shaggy strays and makes them look like the pick of the litter, greatly increasing her chances of being adopted.

And Rosenbaum waives her grooming fee for stray dogs.

"I feel what comes around goes around. You know, karma," said Rosenbaum.

How fitting then, that Rosenbaum's good deeds were about to come full circle.

Phillips had emailed CBS 5 and nominated Rosenbaum for our "Pay It Forward" segment.

We surprised her at work with the $500 reward.

Phillips' dogs may never be best in show.

But thanks to Rosenbaum's help, at least they'll find a good home.
