MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A man with a knife pressed to the throat of a passenger robbed a Mesa cab driver Saturday night, according to Mesa police.

The cab was stopped at a red light at Stapley Drive and Broadway Road about 9:30 p.m. when the suspect jumped into the back of the cab, police said.

He pressed a knife to the throat of the passenger in the front seat, told both victims to look forward and demanded money from the driver, police said.

He then ordered the cab driver to park behind a church at Solomon Street and Broadway Road, where the suspect jumped out and ran southbound on Solomon.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his mid-30s, 5'10", 160 to 180 pounds with dark curly hair and wearing a red sweatshirt and jeans.
