Send Halloween candy to troops overseas

GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Wondering what to do with all that candy your children pick up trick or treating or have left over at your home? You can donate it to troops overseas.

This year, AZ Cosmetics and Family Dentistry in Glendale is buying candy for $1 per pound. The dentist office said the Halloween Candy Buyback Program teaches children about service and giving back. They are accepting 1,000 pounds of candy that will be donated to U.S. troops.

You can drop off the candy at AZ Cosmetic and Family Dentistry located at 5757 W. Thunderbird Rd., Suite W. 300 in Glendale on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also in the Valley, Southwest Ambulance teams up with Operation Gratitude to collect Halloween candy to include in care packages for troops.

In 2010, Southwest Ambulance collected 663 pounds of candy and 150 letters for Operation Gratitude, which is a nonprofit organization based out of the Army National Guard Armory in Van Nuys, CA.

People are encouraged to write letters to send along with their candy, which will be shipped to Operation Gratitude on Veterans Day.
