Beechcraft Staggerwing
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A biplane briefly caught fire after it made a belly landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Tuesday morning.
Scott Walker of the Phoenix Fire Department said the Beechcraft Staggerwing was making a landing at the airport when the landing gear collapsed.
Walker said the belly of the plane scraped the ground and caused a fire at the front of the aircraft. Firefighters used dry chemicals to extinguish the fire.
The plane carried only the pilot, who was not injured, Walker said.
Julie Rodriguez, a Phoenix-Sky Harbor spokeswoman, said there were no disruptions at the airport because of the incident.
