Car hits mom, 4-year-old on bike

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 4-year-old boy riding a bike with training wheels was seriously hurt and his mom injured when they were hit by a car as they crossed a Phoenix street Monday evening.

A 6-year-old who was with them in the crosswalk made it across the street safely, said Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department.

The accident happened at 20th Street and Osborn.

Martos said a physician who happened to be in the area treated the little boy before paramedics arrived.

He said the boy was expected to survive.

Martos said the driver of the car was cited for not having her headlights turned on and not stopping for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. 

No names were immediately available.
