A fire in a central Phoenix high-rise forced the closure of Central Avenue south of Camelback Road Tuesday morning.
Phoenix fire officials said they requested the closure after the fire broke out around 8 a.m. at 4750 N. Central Ave. on the third and fourth floors.
The large number of responding fire trucks necessitated the closure, a Phoenix fire official said.
Heavy smoke was being cleared from those floors, firefighters said, who added the road was not expected to remain closed for long.
