A football booster club treasurer has been arrested after she allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old male member of the team.
Maricopa County sheriff's detectives arrested Cherish Arroyo, 35, Tuesday on suspicion of sex with a minor. She was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on six felony counts of sex with a minor. Arroyo was released from jail Wednesday after posting bond.
The sheriff's office says it was contacted earlier this month by the parents of a high school football player after finding what the parents called "inappropriate communications" between Arroyo and the alleged victim on Facebook.
The parents confronted their son who eventually admitted that he had sex with Arroyo on three separate occasions starting when he was 16 years old, sheriff's deputies said.
Arroyo was taken into custody at her home Tuesday where she lives with her husband and two teenage children and where deputies said the sex acts occurred.
Arroyo's two children attend Cooper Canyon High School, the same school as the victim and where one of her children plays on the same football team as the minor she was allegedly having sex with, sheriff's investigators said.
Detectives said the woman told them she engaged in sex with the teen because she was "lonesome."
If convicted, Arroyo faces several years in prison.
"My deputies are continuing to investigate the woman's activities and have received information from the victim that Arroyo may have abused other team members or schoolmates," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio in a news release. "If there are other victims, we would like them to come forward with information."
Anyone with information should call 602-876-1087.
