Bees attacked three people at a home in Wilhoit Thursday afternoon, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
The victim was identified as Walter Coughran of Kirkland. Yavapai County sheriff's deputies said he had run to a neighbor's home and collapsed on the porch.
A 48-year-old person was rushed to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center with bee stings. The third victim was treated and released.
Initial reports indicate the victims were working on the home when the attack occurred, sheriff's investigators said. The hive was located in or around a dog house on the property in the 8300 block of Carnaby Lane.
The victims don't live at the home and the homeowner was not present at the time of the incident, deputies said.
It's not known at this early stage if the bee stings were a factor in the death of Coughran or if a pre-existing medical condition was an issue, sheriff's investigators said. The exact cause of death will be pending autopsy results by a medical examiner.
Wilhoit is about 80 miles northwest of the Valley, not far from Prescott.
