Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne
An Oct. 3 court hearing has been scheduled on Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne's request for an order to compel three members of the state redistricting commission to cooperate with an investigation by his office.
A petition filed by Horne accuses the commission's chairwoman and two Democratic members of stonewalling his office's investigation.
It also says evidence indicates that Chairwoman Colleen Mathis violated the open meeting law by having one-on-one talks with other members before a key vote.
The investigation stems from controversy surrounding the commission's selection of a firm with Democratic ties to be its mapping consultants.
A commission spokesman declined immediate comment on Horne's filing and its allegations, but commission attorneys previously objected to Horne's demand for documents and testimony as unfounded and legally flawed.
