Murdered 10-year-old's father speaks out

Posted: Updated:

Kenneth Griest says he was shocked to hear of Ame Deal's death. Griest claims that he is not only the biological father of the murdered 10-year-old, but also helped raise her until she was about four.

Griest says the girl's biological mother, Shirley, ran from state to state with the little girl. And every time Griest managed to track Ame down she would move on, he told KDKA in Pittsburgh.

Ame Deal was found back in July dead inside a footlocker in Phoenix. Her caretakers, Samantha and John Allen, are accused of putting her in there as punishment for eating a popsicle. Police say this wasn't the first time the little girl was placed in the box.

Griest says Ame was a good kid. "She got into a little bit of trouble like normal, but she'd get timeout or whatever," Griest said. "She had everything she needed."

Griest said he learned about Ame's murder by watching news reports, which is why he was stunned to discover the little girl mentioned was his. "When I first heard about it, I was really stunned, it just shocked me that they could do something to a kid."
