Looking for a good auto mechanic can be frustrating and stressful. How do I know who to trust? How do I know they won't overcharge me? What experiences have others had at that shop? These are just some of the questions that have been asked by NARPRO, a Valley organization hoping to make your next service station visit a little more pleasant.
"There are some organizations that rate not only mechanics but also plumbers and pest control people. "All we do is car repair," said Jay Jennings, general manager of NARPRO, which stands for Neighborhood of Auto Repair Professionals.
Shops that earn the NARPRO stamp of approval have been "graded" on 26 different standards, most importantly of which, is customer satisfaction.
"Not everybody in town is listed on our network, only the ones that meet our standards," said Jennings.
To obtain a list of NARPRO-recommended shops nearby, simply go to the NARPRO website , enter your zip code and type of car, and a rough idea of what you think the problem may be.
Jennings adds, "It's a simple process for the consumer to find a good shop that they should be very happy with."
And to remain a NARPRO-approved shop, it must maintain a 95% or better customer satisfaction rate. Satisfaction is top priority at these locally-owned businesses because their only advertising is often word of mouth.
"We depend a lot on referrals. If you're a good customer of mine, we have confidence that you're going to tell other people," said James Garnand, owner of Hi-Tech Car Care in Phoenix.
