APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (CBS5) -
They were rescued from an Arizona City home: 17 pit bulls in very poor health living with a suspected hoarder.
On Wednesday, the dogs were released from Animal Control to get put in the care of Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue.
Last month, Pinal County Animal Care officers found the dogs neglected, two of them tied to very short chains and tangled together in a front yard.
The other 15 pit bulls were found behind the home. Officers say the dogs had no access to water.
"We have to try to save and help as many as we can, rehab them, find them good homes, so that they could actually start a life for their selves, a good life," said Cathy Swaney, founder of Valley of the Sun Dog.
The dogs were transported to a kennel in Apache Junction Wednesday, but Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue says they will need Community Support to provide the necessary medical care, vaccinations and boarding cost that will be required.
